Fantastically Great Women Comes to Cardiff

Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World The musical is based on the book written by Kate Pankhurst. The musical is currently on tour and visiting Cardiff until Sunday 21st January. There are tickets still left so don’t delay to get a ticket to the most inspirational musical you’ll see, ever!

The Story

The story, which includes Kate’s own relative Emmeline Pankhurst who organised the suffragette movement, includes many other formidably great women throughout history. Women such as Frieda Kahlo, Rosa Parks, Jane Austin, and Marie Curie are some of the incredible stories you’ll hear, including the challenges they faced on their journey’s. As Jade, a young girl lost in a museum and in life, stumbles upon a closed exhibition during a school trip she gets more than she bargained for! She meets many iconic women from history whose courage, actions, and lives changed the world for future generations.

The Production

The production is very colourful and upbeat with brilliant music to accompany the stories. Above the set, in cubes, you’ll see the band busting out the pop music for the performers below. Audience participation is also encouraged making the show even more fun as well as educational and inspirational. The songs are catchy, my favourite being Deeds Not Words, and they’ll get you doing some seat dancing.

The actors do a wonderful job of playing multiple roles in a fast paced, high-energy musical. Rachel Seirian is playing Jade at Cardiff in a casting change, with the other actors taking on 3/4 characters each with big costume changes!

Review

I love everything about this show! The music, colourful set, the women honoured, and the unapologetic way this musical focuses on women. It is genius how the show explores the preconceived idea of these iconic women focusing on their accolades first, through the eyes of Jade. Then the women tell their own journey, including the struggles, through their songs. This really hones the reality that their legacies are often quite different to the ones we are taught generations later.

I learnt so much about these amazing women and it gave me a newfound respect for women who have fought , and still fighting, so hard for women’s rights. There is a strong message that action is stronger than words, and nobody can fight a battle on their own. Also, the fight for women’s rights is never over and we are all fantastically great women who can change the world if we want to.

So what are you going to do to be a fantastically great woman?

This sounds like a fun and interesting show! I love the colours. We often see the outcome, and never realise what went behind to get to that outcome. Happens all the time. The fight for the rights is ongoing, yes. Thank you for sharing your review!
